Niamh & Kieran | A Chic, Relaxed Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding
Some weddings don’t need much to make them special. Just the right people, a beautiful space, and a couple who are completely at ease with each other.
Niamh and Kieran’s Edinburgh City Chambers wedding was exactly that.
They found me on TikTok back in February, planning a June wedding just a few months later. High school sweethearts, newly engaged, and very clear on what mattered to them: something small, meaningful, and intentional. Just their parents as witnesses, a relaxed registry office ceremony, and then time to wander Edinburgh together before meeting family for dinner later on.
A dream brief.
A European Room ceremony at Edinburgh City Chambers
Their ceremony took place at Edinburgh City Chambers, in the European Room - my favourite room in the building and one that’s only available at weekends. It’s grand without being overwhelming, full of history but still wonderfully intimate, especially for smaller guest numbers like this.
With around ten guests seated behind them, the room felt calm, warm, and quietly emotional. No rushing, no nerves taking over. Just the two of them standing hand in hand, smiling their way through the ceremony.
That moment just after they were pronounced married - walking back up the aisle, grinning at each other while their guests looked on - is one of those small, perfect City Chambers moments I never get tired of photographing.
Confetti, details, and a proper Edinburgh exit
After the ceremony, we headed outside City Chambers for group photos before making our way onto the Royal Mile for confetti. This is always one of my favourite parts of the day, and Niamh and Kieran’s was a belter.
Colourful confetti filled the air as they walked out laughing, surrounded by their guests, with the stone backdrop of the city doing what it does best. Afterwards, the confetti settled across the ground alongside some of my favourite details of the day - Niamh’s pearl bag, her shoes, and her simple but striking florals: three calla lily stems tied with soft ribbon. Understated, modern, and so her.
It’s proof that you don’t need lots of details. Just thoughtful ones.
Wandering the Old Town (and a well-earned pint)
From there, we took a relaxed wander through Edinburgh’s Old Town, letting the day unfold naturally. No strict route, just stopping where the light was good and the moments felt right.
We wandered along the Royal Mile, past St Giles’ Cathedral, through the Courts, down Victoria Street, into the Grassmarket, and over to the Vennel. The whole time, Niamh and Kieran were completely themselves - chatting, laughing, soaking it all in.
They even had one special request mid-walk: to stop for a pint. I could not possibly object.
So off we went to the pub, capturing those brilliantly normal, just-married moments that feel so true to who they are.
Style notes I loved
Niamh’s outfit deserves a moment of its own. Effortless, chic, and full of personality. The soft silhouette worked beautifully in the European Room, and the little details - especially her earrings and pearl bag - tied everything together perfectly. Kieran looked equally sharp, with the two of them complementing each other in a way that felt natural rather than over-styled.
It was one of those weddings where everything felt intentional but never overdone.
Why City Chambers weddings are kind of my thing
I shoot a lot of weddings at Edinburgh City Chambers, and days like this are exactly why I love them. Knowing the building, the flow of ceremonies, where to head afterwards, and how to make the most of a short amount of time makes all the difference.
That’s why I offer a 2-hour City Chambers wedding photography package, designed specifically for couples who want:
A relaxed registry office ceremony
Time for group photos and confetti
A wander through Edinburgh for just-married photos
And a day that feels un-rushed and true to them
Niamh and Kieran’s wedding is a perfect example of how much you can experience - and how many meaningful moments you can capture in just a couple of hours when things are planned with intention!
