Here on holiday, popping the question, or just wanting an hour that's about the two of you? I'm Lou - a local Edinburgh photographer, and I'll help you make the most of the city while you're here. Fun, relaxed, real photos, planned around your trip rather than the other way round.
meet your local expert
I've lived in and around Edinburgh for more than 10 years and now have over 150 weddings under my belt and counting — so I know this city. Not just the postcard spots, but which close catches the light at 6pm, where the tour buses aren't, and which bit of the Old Town looks like nobody else's photos.
That local knowledge is the whole point if you're only here for a few days. You don't need to have researched Edinburgh, worked out logistics, or picked locations yourselves - I've already done it, loads of times over. You just need to show up and enjoy being here.
why Edinburgh..?
Edinburgh is a proper film-set of a city — a castle on a volcanic rock, cobbled closes, Georgian streets, and a skyline that looks (almost) the same as it did 200 years ago. You could point a camera almost anywhere in the Old Town and get something incredible, which is exactly why it's one of the most romantic backdrops in Europe.
For couples visiting from aborad, it's a city that photographs like nowhere at home — and having someone who knows it well means your hour or two here captures the Edinburgh you came for, not just the bit outside your hotel.
how it works
Planning a shoot from another country, mid-holiday, shouldn't be stressful — so I've kept it simple.
Get in touch with your travel dates and what you're after — anniversary shoot, engagement photos, a proposal, whatever it is.
I plan the route. Once you're booked in, I'll send over a shortlist of spots suited to your dates, the time of day, and however long you've got — whether that's a relaxed hour or a full afternoon exploring.
We shoot, no pressure. No posing manuals, no awkward directing — just walking, talking, and me catching the real moments in between.
You get your gallery fully edited and delivered online, wherever you are in the world by then.

planning a proposal
If you're planning to pop the question in Edinburgh, I'd love to help you pull it off. I'll work with you beforehand on the where and when — a spot with the view, the light, and enough privacy to make it feel like your moment, not a tourist attraction's — then hang back, camera ready, so the whole thing is captured without your other half ever clocking me.
Afterwards, if you fancy it, we can turn it straight into a proper engagement shoot while the champagne's still fizzing.
locations I love
Edinburgh's small enough that we can hit a real mix without much walking. Depending on the light, the weather, and how much time you've got, I'll usually plan a route through spots like:
the Old Town's closes and wynds, and the Royal Mile
Calton Hill, for the best skyline view in the city
Arthur's Seat, if you fancy a wee climb and don't mind getting the heart rate up (don’t worry, we don’t have to go to the top)
Dean Village and the Water of Leith, all bridges and colourful old mills
Circus Lane and the New Town's Georgian streets
Princes Street Gardens + Ross Fountain with the Castle behind you
If you've got longer, or fancy getting further out, day trips to the Highlands or the coast are also on the table — just let me know what kind of time you've got to play with.

Two or three spots across the city instead of one, more time to let the light do its thing, and room for an outfit change if you fancy it. My most popular option for couples who want a proper wander round Edinburgh.

As soon as your travel dates are firm, especially for summer (May–September), which books up fastest.

Easily. Most sessions only need an hour or two, and I'll plan it around whatever else is on your itinerary — just tell me your dates.

Yes — book with rough dates and we'll lock in the exact time closer to your trip, once flights and plans are settled.

Whatever makes you feel like you. I recommend comfy clothes you can move in and colours that complement each other without matching exactly. Layers work great for Edinburgh’s unpredictable weather and I am always happy to help you decide if you are stuck.

Honestly, nearly every couple tells me this. You do not need to know what to do - that is my job. I will gently guide you so things feel natural, and you will spend most of the shoot just chatting, walking, and laughing together. It will be way more fun (and way less scary) than you think.

Absolutely. Your shoot should feel like you, so bring whoever (or whatever) adds to that. Just give me a heads up so we can plan the best location and timing.

We roll with it. Edinburgh is beautiful in all weather, and a bit of drizzle can add magic. I always keep an eye on the forecast and can shuffle timing slightly if needed. I also know some gorgeous covered spots if we need them.

Of course. Once you are booked in, I will send over a list of my favourite routes and spots. Whether you want dramatic views, historic charm, secret gardens or a mix, we will find the perfect fit for you.

Not at all. Golden hour shoots (early morning or early evening) tend to work brilliantly around jetlag anyway — the light's better for it too.

You'll get a fully edited online gallery you can download from anywhere — no need to be back in Scotland, or even in the same country.
