John & Jonathan’s Elegant City Wedding at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh

Some weddings just feel extra special from the moment you arrive and John & Jonathan’s day at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh was exactly that. These two chose to get ready together in a New Town apartment surrounded by their grooms-people, champagne flowing, buttonholes being pinned, and plenty of laughter. I always love when couples get ready together; it makes for such intimate, calm moments before the day really kicks off, and it was such a joy to see how close and connected these two are.

From Champagne to Buttonholes - Getting Ready Together

The morning was full of excitement and fun as everyone got ready in the apartment. Popping bottles, helping each other with ties and buttonholes, and sharing a few nervous laughs - it was such a relaxed start to the day. For John & Jonathan, being side by side from the very beginning felt natural, and it gave me the chance to capture those little in-between moments of closeness before the celebrations began.

Strolling Through New Town to Say ‘I Do’

Once everyone was suited up (and looking incredibly sharp in tuxes), we strolled through the streets of New Town to the venue. It set the tone perfectly for a stylish city wedding. Their ceremony was held in the Royal College of Physicians itself a particularly meaningful choice as both grooms are doctors, and one is a member of the College. The space was filled beautiful music, with their friend playing the harp, which added such a personal touch.

Confetti Goals Outside RCPE

Of course, no RCPE wedding is complete without that epic confetti throw on the steps outside and John & Jonathan’s was one of the best. Guests lined up to shower them in colour, and the joy on their faces says it all- John even loved it so much he dragged Jonathan back up and down the line a few times! Confetti shots are always one of my favourite parts of the day, and this one was a standout.

Gardens in Bloom – The Perfect Backdrop for Portraits

A huge perk of a Royal College of Physicians wedding is access to the private gardens, and we made the most of them. Everything was in bloom, the light was gorgeous, and John & Jonathan simply wandered and chatted while I captured it all. Their portraits were very natural, relaxed, and documentary-led, giving them a moment together without ever feeling staged.

Why I Love Photographing Weddings at RCPE

RCPE is one of my favourite Edinburgh venues. Not only do you get the stunning gardens right in the middle of the city, but the interiors are just as special. The sweeping staircase, the grand library with its balcony, the light-filled corridors - every corner is a dream to photograph. It’s a venue that manages to be both historic and welcoming, and it’s always a joy to shoot there.

A Wee Personal Twist

Beyond all the elegance, there was also a funny coincidence on the day. During the morning prep we discovered that Jonathan (and his twin brother!) actually went to the same school as me, and so did their videographer. We ended up swapping stories and trying to work out who we knew in common throughout the day - such a small-world moment. Big up Marr College alumni!

John & Jonathan – A Day Filled With Style and Connection

From champagne in the morning to laughter in the gardens, John & Jonathan’s wedding was chilled, elegant, and full of joy. Their connection was clear in every moment, and it was a privilege to capture their day in such a meaningful venue.

If you’re planning your own Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh wedding, I’d love to hear from you. I know this venue inside out and it’s always such a dream to photograph.
